How to Assess and Reset Your Goals for Fall
For a lot of us, summer is a fun diversion from our regular routine. Maybe you swapped out some gym workouts in favor of outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding. Or perhaps you paused your rigorous meal planning and prepping in favor of more spontaneous eating in order to enjoy time with family and friends.
But it can be grounding to settle back into a steady schedule. And fall is the perfect time to reflect on your fitness journey, reassess your goals, and embrace new challenges. To help you stay motivated and inspired throughout the season and beyond, we’re hosting a Fall Fitness Challenge!
Whether you're a seasoned fitness enthusiast or just starting, our fall challenge offers a chance to reset and refocus on your goals.
Here are some valuable tips on evaluating your progress and setting new objectives to ensure continued growth and success in your fitness journey. Plus, you’ll find all the details on how to join the next Fit Body fitness challenge!
Reflect on Your Achievements
Before setting new goals, it's important to look back at what you've accomplished. And it doesn’t have to be related to the scale, aesthetics or the gym (though of course those things definitely count, too!). It could be a new outdoor workout you tried and loved, a step PR you set while hiking, staying consistently active while traveling, etc.
Celebrate your achievements, both big and small. Take pride in the progress you've made, and remember that every step counts. Acknowledging your successes will boost your confidence and motivate you to tackle new challenges in the coming months.
Assess Your Current Fitness Level
Understanding where you stand in terms of fitness is crucial for setting realistic and achievable goals. It’s totally normal for your strengths to have changed over summer if you’ve been knocked off your usual path. For example, you might have more endurance now after months of swimming but perhaps your muscle strength has plateaued a bit.
Or maybe you used your summer break to really drill down on your workout goals and are stronger than you were at the end of spring.
Whatever the case, it’s helpful to take a fitness assessment to evaluate your strength, flexibility, endurance, and overall performance. This assessment will help you identify areas that need improvement and areas where you excel.
Make Sure Your Goals Are SMART
When creating new fitness objectives or re-establishing previous ones, remember to make them Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound (SMART).
For instance, instead of setting a vague goal like "get fit," make it more specific, such as "run a 5K race in under 30 minutes within the next three months." SMART goals provide direction and clarity, making it easier to track your progress and stay committed.
Fall brings plenty of opportunities to diversify your workouts. Incorporate outdoor activities like hiking, trail running, or cycling to enjoy the crisp air and stunning scenery.
Consider trying new fitness classes (like the on-demand ones in the Fit Body app) or activities to keep your workouts fresh and exciting. Or if you find your current program isn’t going to work for your new goals, try one of the 13 programs in the app.
Variety not only keeps you engaged but also challenges different muscle groups, leading to well-rounded fitness.
Participate in a Fitness Challenge
One fantastic way to stay motivated during fall is by participating in a fitness challenge. A challenge can add an element of competition and excitement to your routine, pushing you to go beyond your comfort zone.
